Who are you Walden?

Yes, who are you?

My name is Simon (not Walden) .

I create unique wooden furniture and objects, handcrafted in my small workshop in the North of France.

« Atelier Walden » : this name comes from my old childhood book “Walden or Life in the Woods” written by the American writer and poet Henry David Thoreau .

I was so obsessed with this book: the story of a man abandoning everything, including his modern comforts, to live alone in the woods... a return to basics, a SLOW LIFE far from the madness of consumerism. Back in 1854!

By founding Atelier Walden and becoming a cabinetmaker-designer, I developed a unique approach combining creativity, entrepreneurial strategy, and technical rigor, a direct extension of my work as an artistic director. My approach includes product design and creation, inspired by market trends and expectations.

A graduate in cabinetmaking through the Compagnons Du Devoir , I now offer a minimalist, raw and uninhibited approach to woodworking while injecting a form of fragile poetry. On the edge...

Every piece here has been designed and crafted with passion and expertise, using sustainable materials and whenever possible WITHOUT the aid of any type of machinery. That's why every object is so unique: you SEE the tools printed on the wood, you can FEEL them. Here, no mass production, even in a small series, no two creations are identical.

Each item is produced in very limited quantities and individually numbered.

Finally, here are the words of Pierre Yovanovitch who partly inspire my daily life:

I like materials that can be shaped but are never completely predictable. My predilection for solid wood is largely due to the fact that its material evolves over time, in a way that the cabinetmaker will have anticipated but never completely planned. In a way, solid wood will retain a degree of freedom and will always be able to surprise us. I like uniqueness, individuality. This is to a certain extent contradictory to the idea of design but makes my work exciting. It refers to the vagaries of nature that we cannot tame. – Pierre Yovanovitch

See you soon, Simon.
